Loreto College Ballarat

This set me thinking and wishing our dear Loreto children were a ‘row of goodly pearls.’ I would string my pearls on a triple cord, strong and sure.

With these words of our beloved Mother Gonzaga Barry, our installation took shape.

The people that have been part of our journey of 150 years are the possibilities. As they entered through our gates and into our buildings whether it was at our campus on Dawson Street or at Mary's Mount, these people are the pearls that Mother Gonzaga Barry spoke of. They are people that have developed over time, that were given the right conditions to flourish and they are authentic and valued by all. It is rare to find perfection in pearls, however, all pearls are miraculous.

These pearls are not by themselves in Mother Gonzaga Barry’s opinion. One pearl is appealing, however, in her vision they on a triple cord for extra strength and surety. A powerful image of our Loreto.

In our installation you will see our iconic buildings replicated, you are given an opportunity to peer inside them. To see our memories of students, staff, classrooms, canteens, activities and lessons. You will see objects that we have replicated to add to our photos. However, alongside these memories you will hear a variety of voices. The voices of students that came through our doors many years ago or not so many years ago. The students who were married in our chapel or who went to Dawson Street exclusively. The students that loved our Loreto and tell of the privilege of being here. You will hear the voices of teachers and staff who spent many years working with our students and creating the possible.

You will hopefully hear or see something that will remind you that you are and continue to be a pearl of great value on a triple corded string, strong and sure.
